Susan Martin and her husband, William, of Westchester, own Ceramic Art Cafe in La Grange where customers can paint mugs, plates or bowls and relax.

Q: How long have you been married?

A: We’ve been married for 47 years and we’ve lived in Westchester for 47 years.

Q: How long have you owned the Ceramic Art Cafe?

A: 18 years

Q: How many children and grandchildren do you have?

A: We have three sons and five grandchildren.

Q: What did you do before owning the Ceramic Art Cafe?

A: I was a medical biller for 29 years.

Q: Why did you decide to get into this business?

A: I was tired of working in the house and I do rosemaling. It’s a Norwegian folk art. I’m half Norwegian. I went to Door County and took classes in it.

Q: What do you enjoy about this business?

A: The people are unbelievable. They don’t come in here to be entertained. They come in to relax. It’s so therapeutic.

Q: Do you do a lot of parties?

A: Seventy-five percent of our business is birthday parties.

Q: What is your favorite color?

A: I’d say red. I love red. It’s a happy color. And I’m a Blackhawks fan and a Cubs fan.

Q: What’s an item on your bucket list?

A: To motorcycle ride in a side car from Chicago to Rockford or zip line.

Q: What is your pet peeve?

A: People who are disrespectful to others.

Q: If you could have a super power, what would it be?

A: Put everyone at peace in this world.
