The Cubs are National League champions. We repeat: The Cubs are National League champions!

It also bears repeating that the Cubs finally have ended their drought of 71 years between World Series appearances. Only one more drought to erase.

Kyle Hendricks

More Top Picks Roborock Saros 10r

Simply brilliant. He went 7 1/3 innings and gave up no runs on two hits and didn’t walk anyone. Not even Clayton Kershaw could match him on Saturday, and a Cy Young award might be in his future.

All the other Cubs

Not enough can be said about how resilient this team has been in this series alone. To get shut out twice, then close out the series with three straight victories, including a clinching shutout?! That’s as focused as it gets. They did not mess around Saturday, taking an early lead and not letting up offensively or defensively. Bravo.

The community

There’s nothing in Chicago that compares to the atmosphere surrounding Wrigley Field when the Cubs are going well. Not Soldier Field, not the West Loop, not Bridgeport. Shoutout to the Chicago police for keeping things under control amid throngs of people in Wrigleyville, even though many of them clearly had too much to drink.

3 DOWN

Tough break for Wrigley

In a perfect world, the Cubs would be hosting Games 1 and 2 of the World Series because they had a better regular-season record than Cleveland. As it is, the Indians will have home-field advantage because the American League won the All-Star Game. Hey MLB, there’s no reason for it to be that way. If the NHL and NBA can do it, so can you.

Learn to share, Javy!

Javy Baez gave Cubs fans, and Anthony Rizzo, a bit of a scare when he “stole” a foul pop-up from his teammate. Though we can forgive him because he still caught the ball.

Quick turnaround

There are only two days to celebrate the Cubs’ first trip to the World Series since 1945. A week would be better, though in all honesty, no amount of time would be enough.

All that’s left to do is get pumped for Game 1 of the World Series! 7:08 p.m. Tuesday on Fox. Believe it.
