An Evanston man faces felony weapons and misdemeanor drug charges after police found a loaded handgun in his vehicle Tuesday night, authorities said.
Pedro Lebron, 41, of the 2000 block of Jackson, is charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, misdemeanor possession of a firearm/ammunition without a firearm owner’s identification card and misdemeanor unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Members of the Evanston police tactical unit were in the area of Dodge Avenue and Emerson Street around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday when they saw the vehicle Lebron was driving disregard a red light, police said. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 1600 block of Emerson Street, but Lebron continued traveling eastbound and officers saw him leaning over into the passenger compartment, police said.
When Lebron finally stopped in the 1400 block of Emerson Street, officers observed Lebron “acting in a nervous manner” and also noticed an odor of burnt cannabis emanating from the vehicle, police said. During a search of the vehicle officers found an open can of beer and a pipe used to smoke narcotics, police said.
A loaded Sig Sauer .380 caliber handgun was also recovered from the rear passenger area of the vehicle, police said.
