Ashley Burger, an assistant principal at McClure Junior High School in Western Springs, answered questions while working at the District 101 Administrative Center.

Q: Where do you live?

A: Chicago. In the Roscoe Village neighborhood.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: Santa Cruz, Calif.

Q: Are you married?

A: My husband is Jay and we’re expecting our first child in March

Q: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: A teacher or a doctor

Q: What crushed the medical dream?

A: Being in the classroom, you can have much more of an immediate impact. Parents trust you and put their kids in your care and you develop personal relationships with the kids. Plus, I found out I am not so good with blood.

Q: What’s your favorite part of the job?

A: Definitely the kids and the families. There are a lot of professionals in the district who I learn from. Everyone is working together to have our kids be the best students they can be. I love being with the students and making a personal connection.

Q: Who would play you in a movie about your life?

A: Jennifer Gardner in “13 Going on 30.” I’ve been that girl.

Q: What might people be surprised that you listen to?

A: Justin Timberlake. I am a big fan of his.

Q: What is your favorite charity?

A: MS Walk. I’ve donated to MS work for a long time.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Reading, yoga, running, having fun with friends

Q: What are facts people may not know about you?

A:: I am an only child and I was born in California.

Q: What are your favorite local restaurants?

A: Solstice, they have sensational lunches; and Hillgrove Tap, they have great fries.

Q: What reality show would you be on?

A: “Top Chef” or any cooking-type show

Q: Do you have pets?

A: Two cats and a dog

Q: What are your words of wisdom?

A: Embrace the present.
