A return to Lyons Township High School was a trip down memory lane for five members of the class of 1956 who made it to homecoming.

Jerry Lonnes of Richmond, Virginia, John Reisch of Lombard, Karen Kimen and Martin Meier, both of San Francisco, and Bill Oldham of Wailea, Hawaii, made the trip back to the high school to commemorate 60 years since they graduated from the school.

“I think we’re the oldest here,” Kimen said.

They weren’t too disappointed that the Homecoming Parade was canceled due to rain. They toured the north campus and noted some of the features that are new.

“The computers and all the technology,” Kimen said.

Other elements were familiar, but had been new or not yet completed when they were at the school.

“The tunnel was new in 1952,” said Lonnes of the underground structure that connects the north building to the Vaughan Athletic Center.

“We were the last to finish before the south campus was built,” Kimen said.

The homecoming was the fifth time the longtime friends have gotten together for a reunion. They enjoyed seeing the campus and a couple of dinners together.

“We’ve had just a great time. It’s pretty interesting to see what’s changed,” Reisch said.

They agreed that some things have remained the same.

“We haven’t changed a bit,” joked Oldham.
