Although a recent bomb threat directed at two Long Grove schools appears to be a hoax, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is keeping a deputy at the building through Friday, school officials said.
Greg Grana, principal of Woodlawn Middle School, which was subject to the threat made over the weekend along with Country Meadows Elementary, said he hopes investigators can find whoever made the threat.
“We’re waiting to hear,” he said. “They haven’t given up on this.”
No explosives were found at two Long Grove schools after a caller told emergency dispatchers early Saturday morning that he wanted to blow up Country Meadows Elementary School and Woodlawn Middle School, police have said.
Lake County sheriff’s deputies conducted a search of the schools, both located on Gilmer Road. The search included the use of a bomb-detecting K-9 police dog and did not find anything suspicious, according to a news release.
The call came in at 2:19 a.m. Saturday, so both buildings were empty and did not need to be evacuated, Sgt. Sara Balmes had said. The caller also indicated he wanted to blow up police departments within a 50-mile area.
Although police believe the threat doesn’t pose a danger to the schools, a sheriff’s deputy has remained at the building, shared by both the schools, throughout the week, Grana said.
“To me, it’s the commitment the district and the police have to the community,” he said. “There were some very upset students by this.”
