The following items were discussed and/or action was taken at the Norridge Village Board meeting on Sept. 28.

Norridge to host recycling day

An electronics recycling day is planned for Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents of the community can dispose of their used electronics by bringing them to the police garage on Montrose and Ottawa avenues. This is the last year the village will be accepting old televisions and computer monitors.

During the same time, residents can drop off prescription drugs, used eyeglasses, gym shoes, flags, cellphones, ink and toner cartridges at village hall in the parking lot at 4000 N. Olcott Ave.

Consolidated 911 Center updates

The Village Board approved a recommendation from Police Chief Dave Disselhorst to hire Allison Zanders as a reserve radio dispatcher at a rate of $17.03 per hour. Zanders’ hire date was Sept. 16, according to the village.

The village approved $15,744 in costs for various planning stages for the new consolidated 911 dispatch center that will operate out of the Harwood Heights Police Department. Harwood Heights is splitting the costs of the combined call center with the villages of Norridge and Schiller Park. The three towns are consulting on the project with 911 center consolidation services company PSAP Solutions LLC, of Geneva.

Contracts and expenditures

The Village Board approved the following contracts and expenditures

Westchester-based civil engineering firm Edwin Hancock Engineering Company was hired to lead the engineering phase of a water main replacement project at the former Norridge theater property at 4510 N. Harlem Ave. The property is being redeveloped as a mixed-use retail complex including an AMC theater and a Miller’s Ale House.

The village paid $21,556 to Norridge Youth Activities for reimbursement for insurance and registration costs the organization incurred during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Permanent cosmetics business coming to Norridge

The village approved a special-use permit to allow Danijela Milowanovic to operate a permanent cosmetics salon in the Cumberland Business Center at 4701 N. Cumberland Ave.

It will be the second permanent makeup salon to open in the same commercial building this year.

In April, the village granted business owner Tetiana Sinclair a special-use permit needed to open the same type of business in the Cumberland Business Center. The strip mall has a mix of businesses, including Basilico Ristorante, insurance and travel agencies, a DUI counseling center, and medical and dental offices.

Tattoo parlors and massage therapy spas require a zoning hearing and a special-use permit prior to opening, according to the village.

Fire department plans annual open house

The Norwood Park Fire Protection District will host an annual open house to recognize Fire Safety Week on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fire house, 7447 W. Lawrence Ave.

The free event is open to the public and will include fire safety demonstrations, free flu shots for Norridge residents and family entertainment.

Handicapped parking signs to be removed

Two disabled parking zones will be removed, including one on the 4000 block of North Osceola Avenue and one on the 4100 block of North Ottawa Avenue.

Next board meeting scheduled

The next Norridge Village Board meeting will be held Oct. 12 at village hall, 4000 N. Olcott Ave.
