A Westville man riding a motorcycle was killed in a crash Saturday evening after a motorist failed to stop at a stop sign and hit his bike, authorities said.
A motorist traveling west on U.S. 421 just after 5 p.m. Saturday did not stop at a stop sign at U.S. 6 and U.S. 421, just south of Westville, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said. Joseph Fillipini, 62, hit the passenger’s side of a Plymouth Voyager minivan and was ejected from his motorcycle, Harris said.
Fillipini was transported to Porter Regional Hospital ER for treatment and was pronounced dead at 5:42 p.m. from severe blunt force injuries, according to Harris’ news release. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash.
The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Westville Fire Department, Westville Police, Cass-Clinton Fire Department and LaPorte County EMS all assisted, Harris said in the release.
