Barrington junior quarterback Ray Niro and senior running back Logan Moews once again starred, but it was coach Joe Sanchez who received the game ball after the Broncos’ 35-7 win at Evanston on Friday, Sept. 16.
Sanchez, in his 15th season, earned his 107th career victory to become the all-time winningest coach in program history.
“(The milestone) doesn’t really matter,” said Sanchez, who received the game ball from his assistant coaches after the game. “It’s about the coaches and the boys. I certainly didn’t do it by myself. I just happen to be the right guy in the right place and it’s been good.”
Ninth-ranked Barrington (4-0) scored on its first three possessions and led 28-0 at halftime in the Mid-Suburban vs. Central Suburban matchup.
Niro carried 14 times for 173 yards, scoring on touchdown runs of 1, 19 and 39 yards. He also completed 15-of-22 passes for 128 yards. Moews collected 114 yards on 18 carries, scoring on two 1-yard runs.
Sanchez surpassed Bill Graham, who went 106-34-2 in 16 seasons (1963-78).
Evanston’s lone score was a 33-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Drew Dawkins to sophomore receiver Michael Axelrood in the third quarter. The Wildkits dropped to 3-1.
