Hometown city officials remained tight-lipped this week about an independent audit that concluded Friday into the activities of former Police Chief Charles Forsyth.
Attorney Michael Cainkar, who represents the City of Hometown, said he has instructed elected officials not to speak about the audit, a copy of which was scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
“The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office will review the findings in the audit and will determine if additional investigation is warranted,” Cainkar wrote in an email on Wednesday. “Because of the ongoing nature of the investigation, the city has no additional comments at this time.”
News of the audit’s completion was announced at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, the attorney said.
Hometown launched the investigation after Forsyth abruptly resigned in early August, but officials would not confirm what records were being examined as part of the audit. Forsyth’s resignation was effective Aug. 8.
Officials also declined then to comment on the nature of the investigation, saying a complete report of the results will be made public when it was completed.
Attempts to reach Mayor Kevin Casey and Hometown City Council members Wednesday were unsuccessful.
