Wheaton police have issued a warning to residents about individuals falsely impersonating ComEd representatives seeking payment for what they claim are overdue bills.

Police said there has been an increase in complaints about representatives calling residents and telling them they need to buy a prepaid credit card and to call a different phone number with personal identification number to pay the bill.

Police said legitimate ComEd representatives will never ask for cash or the use of a prepaid credit card.
