Evanston detectives, working with the assistance of Cook County Sheriff’s police, have a released a sketch of the suspect in an attempted sexual assault in Brummel Park on Aug. 31.

In the incident, a 38-year-old Evanston woman was pushing her 2-year-old child in a stroller at about 8:40 p.m. in the park, located at Brummel Street and Elmwood Avenue, when she was struck in the back of the head by a man before falling to the ground, police said.

The man reportedly got on top of the woman and began removing some of her clothing, during which time the woman screamed and fought the man, which attracted the attention of witnesses in the area, police said.

The man then fled westbound on Dobson Street on foot, police said. The woman was bruised and scratched from the incident, but did not require medical attention, police said. Her child was not physically injured during the incident, police said.

Police have assigned the case highest priority and are awaiting results sent to a crime laboratory, said Commander Joseph Dugan, department spokesperson, on Tuesday.

The man is described as light-skinned, black or Latino, 5-feet-6, of thin build, with short hair and a thin beard, police said. He was last seen wearing a red tank-top and gray pants, Dugan said.
