Before headlining Riot Fest next week, The Flaming Lips will stop by Binny’s Lincoln Park location for the release of the new rye whiskey bearing their name.
Oklahoma City’s most legendary psychedelic rock band will sign bottles of Brainville Rye Whiskey (named for a Flaming Lips song, naturally) and pose for photos 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15, a night before headlining at Riot Fest.
The event will mark the launch of Brainville, made by Evanston’s Few Spirits. The whiskey will be available nationwide in October. The suggested retail price is $124.99. (The regular Few Rye retails for about $60.)
Few founder Paul Hletko has called Brainville “a little spicier and more assertive” than the standard Few rye.
“The Flaming Lips do big, bold music, so we’ll try to do a big bold whiskey,” he said, when announcing the whiskey this summer.
Hletko has said the project came together via a Knoxville, Tenn., artist who designs visuals for The Flaming Lips and proposed a collaboration between the band and Few. Brainville Rye will be limited to 5,000 bottles, about one-fifth of which will be sold in the Chicago area.
