The following items were discussed and/or action was taken at the village of Harwood Heights Board of Trustees meeting on Aug. 25.
Expenditures approved
The Village Board approved the purchase of a new street sweeper for approximately $206,400. The village is buying the new machine from Chicago-based Standard Equipment Company. The old street sweeper had been in and out of disrepair during recent years, according to the village. The village will finance the machine over a seven-year period.
The village authorized a $7,734 payment to West Central Municipal Conference for 2016-2017 membership dues. The organization is a co-op of 51 entities in West Cook and eastern DuPage counties.
A $450 payment was made to the 2016 Municipal Clerks of Illinois Institute and Academy, an event village clerk Marcia Pollowy will attend in Springfield from Oct. 12-14.
The board approved a $1,425 payment to the Illinois Municipal League to attend the organization’s annual conference from Sept. 22-24.
The village will lease two postage machines from shipping company Pitney Bowes at a cost of approximately $330 per month, according to the village.
Elmwood Park-based Colosimo’s Construction was paid $8,739 for concrete replacement needed to fix several water main breaks.
Engineering design firm Christopher B. Burke Engineering LTD was paid $13,400 for engineering services for the retail center being planned at Lawrence and Harlem avenues and a Culver’s restaurant being built at Harlem and Carmen avenues. According to information from the village, the developers of both projects will reimburse the village for the engineering costs.
The village paid approximately $27,000 to the Illinois Department of Transportation for the “Safe Routes to School” grant program for sidewalk improvements near Union Ridge School.
Approximately $57,870 was paid to IDOT for expenses for the repaving of Oak Park Avenue.
The amount of $48,465 was paid to Michigan-based software solution company BS&A Software for software applications used by the village.

Chicago-based accounting firm Miller Cooper & Co. was paid $22,206 for expenses for an annual audit.
The amount of $8,698 was paid to Downers Grove-based technology company Current Technologies for a one-year renewal of a software program, VMware vSphere; and cloud storage for the Cloud Storage a backup server.
The village donated $400 to the Michael S .DeLarco Foundation, an organization created in 2004 in memory of 10-year-old Michael DeLarco, who was killed by a Metra train crossing in River Grove that year. The organization hosts an annual golf outing each summer that helps support the Alexian Brothers Foundation.
The Village Board authorized a $145,000 payment in motor fuel tax funds to repave western Narragansett Avenue between Gunnison Street to Nagle Avenue.
Requests approved
The Village Board approved a resident’s request for a handicap parking sign on the 4700 block of North Sayre Avenue.
A request from Harwood Heights resident Janina Longosz-Znalezniak to rezone the residence at 4414 N. Neenah Ave., from a single-family residential designation to a two-family zoning classification, was approved by the board.
Next meeting scheduled
The next board meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Village Hall, 7300 W. Wilson Ave.
