A favorite festival of many Flossmoor residents returns to the village after being canceled last year because of inclement weather.
Flossmoor Fest, the annual tradition bringing together people of all ages for a huge block party, is scheduled for Sept. 10.
“The fest is an opportunity to get connected with the community,” said Flossmoor Village Manager Bridget Wachtel. “It is the biggest block party you can imagine. And it’s a great opportunity to get to know your neighbors.”
An estimated 3,000 people attended the festival in 2014, an organizer said.
New to this year’s fest are a number of activities for children, including mini golf and a video gaming truck.
“We try to do something that gets everyone from the little kids to the ‘tweens’ group, which why we added the video gaming truck this year,” Wachtel said.
Three bands will play, including Retroactive, which has performed at the fest before, Wachtel said. The two new bands are “Not My Dad and Two Chicks” and “Party Crashers.”
“Actually, all three of those bands have connections to Flossmoor. Members of their bands are residents,” Wachtel said.

The usual popular attractions will be on hand, Wachtel said.
Inflatables, pony rides, fair rides and face painting remain some of the perennial favorites for children.
The fest started in 1999, as a three-day celebration of the 75th anniversary of the village.
