A 27-year-old Gary man is believed to be one of three suspects in a smash-and-grab theft from an Orland Park department store, according to police.
Alonzo Gee was identified as one of the getaway drivers in a heist at about 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 11 inside Target, 15850 94th Ave., who ran from police, according to Orland Park police.
Three suspects used a sledgehammer to smash the Apple display case inside the store and loaded bags with nearly $11,000 worth of products, according to police.
Gee was identified as the one wielding the sledgehammer, according to police. He was charged with retail theft and aggravated fleeing and eluding, police said.
The suspects fled in two vehicles, which were stopped by Orland Park officers at Park Hill Drive and 159th Street, according to police. Drivers then took off on foot in opposite directions.
Gee was arrested on Aug. 25 when he appeared at Markham courthouse for an appearance in an unrelated case, according to police.
The other suspects remain unidentified, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
Gee is due back in court Sept. 29.
