A woman and four men were killed and at least 15 other people have been wounded since Tuesday morning in separate shootings, Chicago police said.

In the most recent fatal shooting about 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, a 24-year-old man was found shot to death in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The man was shot in the chest, neck and arm while sitting in his vehicle in the 5400 block of South Bishop Street. He was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Authorities identified him as Rashon Purnell, of the block where he was shot.

About 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, a man in his 20s was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head in the 3900 block of West 14th Street in the Lawndale neighborhood. Police found the man in an alley after answering a call of a person shot. The man was unresponsive and was pronounced dead on the scene. He was identified as Johnell Johnson, of the 2900 block of West Augusta Boulevard.

About 6:55 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Kirkland Avenue on the Southwest Side, a man in his 20s died after being shot in the chest, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman. The man was found unresponsive in a yard, police said. Authorities identified him as Victor Mata, 22, of the 4900 block of South Marshfield Avenue.

A 28-year-old woman was dropped off at 6:45 p.m. at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park after being shot in the Little Village neighborhood. The woman was a passenger in a vehicle in the 2600 block of South Kedzie Avenue when someone in another vehicle fired shots, striking her, Zala said. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the temple and was pronounced dead at the hospital, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

About 3:20 p.m. a 42-year-old man was shot multiple times in the chest in the 7500 block of South Phillips Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, and he was later pronounced dead, Sweeney said. He was identified by authorities as Christopher Hibbler, of the 8200 block of South Saginaw Avenue. A 27-year-old man also was wounded in that shooting. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital with a graze wound to the back, Sweeney said.

About 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, a 56-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The man was walking home in the 1300 block of East 75th Street when he saw someone shooting at an abandoned house. When the gunman saw the man, he turned and fired shots in his direction, hitting him in the forearm, police said. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
About 12:50 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot six times in the abdomen and right arm in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, according to police.

The man was outside of Franklin Super Food & Liquor in the 500 block of North Kedzie Avenue when a vehicle approached him. The man got into an argument with a passenger in the vehicle, and that passenger then took out a handgun and fired shots, police said.

The man was taken to Stroger hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

Police were able to chase after the car with the gunman inside. The black car was stopped near Monroe Street and Homan Avenue, and four people were taken into custody, police said.

Police also found a gun on the sidewalk four blocks south of the shooting on Kedzie.

About 12:05 a.m., a 31-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The man was sitting on a parked motorcycle in the 5400 block of West Walton Street when he heard gunshots and realized he was hit, police said. The man was hit in the left leg and was taken to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was listed in a good condition, police said.

About 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, a 31-year-old man and a 20-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

The two men walked into an apartment in the 4000 block of West Jackson Boulevard. A male attacker who sat on the couch exchanged words with them then took out a gun and fired shots, police said. The older man was hit in the right arm, and the younger man was shot in the buttocks. The two were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where their condition stabilized, police said.

About 8:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was seriously wounded in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, Zala said.

The man was walking in the 4900 block of West Madison Street when an attacker walked up to him and fired shots, hitting him in the chest. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, Zala said.

About 8 p.m., a 19-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were wounded in a shooting in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, Zala said.

The two were walking in the 8400 block of South Hermitage Avenue when they heard shots and realized they were struck. The man and the woman were both shot in the leg, and they were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions stabilized, Zala said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., a 26-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the 6500 block of South Wentworth Avenue in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. The man was outside when a vehicle approached him and someone inside fired shots, grazing him in the arm. The man managed to get St. Bernard Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

About 6:25 p.m. in the 7100 block of South Damen Avenue in the city’s West Englewood neighborhood, a 21-year-old man was grazed in the leg, Sweeney said. His condition has stabilized at St. Bernard Hospital.

About 5:40 p.m. in the 2700 block of West 59th Street, a robber shot a 59-year-old man in the hand in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to Sweeney. The victim was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

About 2:25 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg in the first block of South Keeler Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. The man was a passenger in a vehicle when someone in another vehicle fired shots, striking him. He managed to get to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

A 42-year-old man was wounded earlier Tuesday about 11:40 a.m. in the 800 block of North Leclaire Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood. An unknown man dressed in all black fired several shots at the 42-year-old, wounding him in the thigh, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman. The shooter left the area on foot.

The wounded man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and was listed in good condition.

About 7:20 a.m. on the Far South Side, a man was shot in the chest and arm in the West Pullman neighborhood, police said. The 20-year-old was in a car in the 11800 block of South Indiana Avenue when someone shot him. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

Tuesday’s first shooting was about 5:40 a.m. in the 3000 block of West 62nd Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 31-year-old man was outside when a red van drove by and someone inside it fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the leg, and the van fled. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.
