
Gina Garlo, who works as a student assistant and in security at Lyons Township High School South Campus in Western Springs, is looking forward to the new school year.
Q: How long have you worked here?
A: 11 years
Q: Where do you live?
A: Brookfield
Q: What does your job entail?
A: We make sure the students returning at this time of year know where there going. If there are any problems we defuse them as soon as possible. We also work at special events like football games, plays and concerts.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: The students, especially the freshmen. They’re brand new to this. I like helping them and getting to know them.
Q: What is a common question you get?
A: A common one is room locations. They’re usually walking the wrong way. They only have six minutes between classes so it’s important that they get what they need and get there on time.
Q: Did you intend to here for 11 years?
A: No. I have a degree in management. And then I decided to be a full-time mom. I came here because the schedule worked so well with my kids schedules. And you have summers off.
Q: How old are your kids now?
A: 28 and 25
Q: Do you have any vacations planned?
A: No. I’m getting my home prepared because I’m going to put it on the market.
Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: I love “House of Cards” and any detective show.
Q: What super power would you like to have?
A: It would be the ability to fly. I hate driving. I have no patience. I’d fly over all the traffic.
