Northlake is expected to have a new Speedway location by the end of the year.

The former site of O’Hare Towing, at 2139 Mannheim Road, is currently being redeveloped as a Speedway gas station and store. The village announced the redevelopment of the property this month and said it would feature truck pumps separate from car pumps.

“The work is well underway, and Speedway should be open by the end of the year,” the village announcement read. “This new business will bring much needed sales tax to the city, but more importantly, provide employment opportunities for area residents.”

Village officials were unavailable for further comment.

Stefanie Griffith, Speedway’s communications manager, said construction began on June 6, and the new location is slated to open by mid-to-late November.

“The new 4,600-square-foot location will feature 20 consumer fueling lanes (10 auto dispensers), three commercial fueling lanes, a complete convenience store, including a beer cave, and Speedway’s latest evolution in food – a Speedy Cafe, with outdoor seating,” Griffith said in an emailed statement. “Speedy Cafe is a fast casual restaurant, where customers place their orders on a self-serve ordering kiosk. The food is freshly prepared and will feature paninis, subs, specialty dogs, customizable pizzas, hand-crafted beverages (lattes, mochas, smoothies and frappes), breakfast sandwiches and sides.”

Speedway, headquartered in Ohio, has approximately 2,770 stores located in 22 states. Speedway is currently reviewing job applications for the new Northlake location at www.speedway.com.
