On this the last day of the 2016 Rio Games, let’s look at the glory, the shame and the chicken hearts.

Winner: Michael Phelps. Retiring? No way. See you and Boomer in Tokyo 2020

Loser: Hope Solo. Who’s the coward now?

Winner: Diving. No, not the kind into a pool. The kind onto a track.

Losers: Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy. Their excuses for bailing on Rio golf look ridiculous now.

Loser: Mosquitoes. They didn’t stand a chance against Rio’s pest control machine.

Winner: Romantics. It isn’t enough to win a medal anymore at the Olympics, you have to immediately follow that up by proposing marriage.

Winner: Simone Biles. What an amazing athlete.

Loser: Apologies. Ryan Lochte’s attempt was about as successful as his weird hair-dye-job.

Winner: Simon Manuel. First African American woman to win individual swimming medal.

Loser: Flowers. Rio officials decided that giving medalists bouquets was not environmentally friendly so they gave them 3-D version of the Rio logo instead.

Winner: Chicken hearts. Marinated and cooked over an open fire in a fancy restaurant on a street corner, this tiny poultry organ is delish – and good for you, too.
