Divvy riders can get a $2 discount off a 24-hour pass beginning Friday.

The city, which owns the blue bike-share program operated by Motivate, is offering the discount as a summer promotion to encourage more riders, said Mike Claffey, spokesman for the city’s Department of Transportation.

The 24-hour pass typically costs $9.95, but the price drops to $7.95 with the $2 discount, which will be available until the end of September.

Riders can go to www.divvybikes.com/save2 and enter their email address to get the discount code. Riders get one discount code per email address and that code only can be applied toward one 24-hour pass. They can go to any Divvy station kiosk, select 24-hour pass, swipe a debit or credit card and enter the free code. The 24-hour pass is good for unlimited 30-minute rides. Late fees apply if trips are longer.

Divvy also will offer bike valet service at six locations along the lakefront this weekend when the Air & Water Show takes place. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, riders can drop off their bikes at Michigan Avenue and Oak Street, Theater on the Lake at Fullerton Parkway, North Avenue Beach, Montrose Harbor and the Shedd Aquarium. From noon to 8 p.m. on the weekend, valet service is available at Navy Pier.
