In news that is very, very bad for our collective health, Krispy Kreme is expanding its Chicagoland locations. Say goodbye to your diet plans.
The first of eight new locations broke ground on Monday and is expected to open in November, just as we’re all about to start packing on the winter hibernation weight. Good lookin’ out, K.K.
The store is set to open in Homewood, so a bit outside the city, but still well worth the trek. Once the company secures its suburban locations, they’ll start looking within the city limits, according to a report by the Tribune. Krispy Kreme left Chicago seven years ago in the midst of the recession, save for one location in Elk Grove Village that supplies their fluffy bits of heaven to grocery stores.
It is our responsibility as a city to drive our asses to these suburban Krispy Kreme locations and prove to them that the doughnut demand is real. Yes, we love Stan’s and Glazed and Infused, but the nostalgia of biting into a Krispy Kreme doughnut is too real to deny.
That, and the fact that you can get a dozen for only $9. We don’t know if that’s a blessing or a curse.
