Evanston Fire Department investigators are investigating the cause of a structure fire last week that broke out in a two-story multi-family house in the 1700 block of Lyons Street and resulted in the displacement of one of the building’s occupants.
Evanston Fire Department companies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, with the first companies finding heavy smoke coming from a door on the first floor, said Division Chief Dwight Hohl.
The alarm was immediately upgraded to a Code 4, which brought additional Evanston fire companies to the scene, Hohl said.
Hohl said suppression companies were able to locate and extinguish the fire, which started in the kitchen area on the first floor. The fire was brought under control at 10:10 p.m., he said.
One resident, on the first floor, was displaced as a result of the blaze. The Red Cross was notified and was assisting in the case, said Hohl.
Hohl said Friday that investigators were still investigating the cause and that no damage figure had been determined.
