When students return to Hampshire Elementary School, 321 Terwilliger Avenue, on Tuesday, they can meet Nancy Regul, their new principal.

The upcoming school year marks her 12th with Community Unit School District 300 and she most recently was assistant principal at Liberty Elementary School in Carpentersville. She taught middle school math for 10 years, she said.

The Elgin High School and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse graduate lives with her husband, Jacob, and their two children — Olivia, 3, and Oliver, 1 — in Lake in the Hills.

Regul said that Hampshire Elementary has grown in recent years and now has three teachers for each grade except for third. She said media will be offered once a week, physical education and music twice a week, STEM (science, technology, English and mathematics) and art every other week.

She said first- and second-grade students will receive Chromebooks to keep at school, while third- through fifth-grade students will be able to take their Chromebooks home.

“We are trying to go more of the digital route,” Regul said. “We will send digital information home every week so parents can find out what’s going on at school.”

Regul said that preschool classes will return to Hampshire Elementary this year after having been at Gary D. Wright Elementary School in Hampshire. Preschool hours are 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. and classes start Wednesday.

“I’m dedicated to working with our district and the wonderful staff at Hampshire Elementary,” Regul said. “The community and families have been very welcoming, and the HSO (Hampshire School Organization) has been very supportive.”
