As we head into Week 2 of the Rio games, let’s look at some of the winners and losers.

Winner: Kazakhstan

Gets its first Olympic swimming medal. And it’s gold. Gold, I tell you. Dmitriy Balandin pulled off a stunning upset in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke Wednesday night, winning from the eighth lane to put his central Asian country on the swimming medal stand for the first time.

Loser: Men’s gymnastics

Getting no respect. Not only is the venue half-filled and often listless, NBC devoted only about 20 minutes to the men’s gymnastics team final during its four hours of Monday night prime-time coverage.

Winner: Diana Taurasi

U.S. hoopster broke single-game U.S. Olympic 3-point record with six 3s.

Losers: Hungry fans

At many of the venues here, not only are the lines crazy long, but the food is crazy bad and crazy scarce. Tip: Bring snack bars.

Winner: Carmelo Anthony

became the most prolific scorer in U.S. men’s Olympic basketball history Wednesday night, passing LeBron James. Anthony also carried the team to victory as the Americans struggled against a tenacious Australian team.

Winners: Brazilian fans

They cheer, they jeer, they dance, they sing. They add energy to the Rio Olympics.

Winner: Conor Dwyer

Not only did the kid from Winnetka win gold and bronze, but when he gets back he’ll throw out another pitch at Wrigley.

Losers: Any of the U.S. women’s basketball opponents
