At least 16 people were shot, three of them fatally, in shootings across Chicago over 12 hours Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to police.

Among those killed was Demarco Kennedy, 32, who was shot in the neck as he sat at a table in his second-floor apartment in the 600 block of East 102nd Place in the Rosemoor neighborhood around 8:10 p.m., police said.

Someone apparently fired at the three-story apartment building on the Far South Side from the parking lot of a nearby Popeye’s restaurant, police said. Investigators found five bullet holes in the building’s walls and windows.

Kennedy was pronounced dead at 10:14 p.m. at Advocate Trinity Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

On the Far North Side about 8:30 p.m., Cortez Tate, 25, died after he was shot in the head in the 7300 block of North Rogers Avenue in the Rogers Park neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and pronounced dead at 11:24 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The third fatal shooting happened about 2:20 p.m. on the South Side in the 5600 block of May Street in the Englewood neighborhood, Sweeney said. Julius Coleman, 18, was shot twice in the chest, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lyle. He lived in the 6000 block of South Green Street, according to the medical examiner’s office. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Other shootings:

* Around midnight on the West Side, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said. The boy was inside a home in the 3500 block of West Pierce Avenue when someone fired shots outside. The bullets shattered a window and hit the boy. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

* At 10:55 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the head in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The man was sitting in a parked car in the 5900 block of West Division Street when someone in another car got out and fired shots, striking the man. He was taken in critical condition to Loyola University Medical Center, police said.

* At 10:25 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was wounded in a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The girl was in the 1000 block of North Leamington Avenue when she was hit in the back. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was listed in “guarded condition,” police said.

* About 10:10 p.m., a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were wounded in the 1300 block of South Karlov Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The man was hit in the left shoulder and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The woman was shot in the left leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was also stabilized, police said.

* Another shooting in Lawndale around 9:45 p.m. wounded a 26-year-old man in the 3900 block of West Grenshaw Street, police said. The man was walking when he was shot in the right leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

* At 9:40 p.m., a 20-year-old man was hit in the right leg in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The man was in the 5300 block of West Potomac Avenue when he was shot. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

* Around 9:20 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the right leg in the 6600 block of South Halsted Street in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

* At 6:40 p.m., two 20-year-old men were wounded — one in the arm and hand, the other in the arm — in the 2900 block of North Linder Avenue, police said. Both were taken to Community First Medical Center, where they were listed in good condition.

* A 36-year-old man was wounded in the back about 6:25 p.m. while riding in a car in the 5500 block of West Jackson Boulevard, Sweeney said. He was in critical condition at Loretto Hospital, Sweeney said.

* Two boys, 16 and 17, were standing on a sidewalk in the 600 block of South California Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood when a gray vehicle passed and someone inside opened fire, hitting them, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a police spokeswoman.

The 16-year-old was hit in the chest, back and hip, and his condition has stabilized at Mount Sinai Hospital, Trainor said. The older boy was shot in the left index finger and left buttock, and he was in good condition at Sinai, Trainor said.

After the 12:15 p.m. attack, the gray vehicle sped away, and the wounded teens went to the hospital, Trainor said.
