A 10-year-old boy was critically hurt after being shot and at least 18 others were shot, seven of them fatally, since late Monday morning across the city.

The boy was standing on the sidewalk in front of a home in the 3900 block of West Polk Street in the Lawndale neighborhood when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck about 10:15 p.m., according to police.

The boy was shot in the lower-left back, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. The boy was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition and was in surgery, according to Langford.

No one was in custody.

Other shootings killed seven people and wounded 11.

The most recent fatal shooting happened about 11:15 p.m. when a 44-year-old man was shot to death and two other men were wounded during a shooting in the 9400 block of South LaSalle Street in the Princeton Park neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The three men were standing on the sidewalk when someone in a blue van drove past and fired shots.

The 44-year-old was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He was identified as Anthony Hatchett, of the 10600 block of South Prnell Avenue.

A 28-year-old man was hit in the back, and he was also taken to Advocate Christ. A 30-year-old man was shot in the right arm and left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital. Both men were listed in critical condition, police said.

About 10:15 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot to death in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said. The man was standing on the front porch of a home in the 1800 block of West 58th Street when someone in a gray sedan fired shots, hitting him multiple times in the side.

The man, identified as Erik L. Williams of 1200 block of West 71st Place, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was initially listed in serious condition. He was later pronounced dead at 11 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.

About 9:25 p.m., a 28-year-old man died after being wounded in a shooting in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

The man was driving in a vehicle in the 3500 block of West Grenshaw Street when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck. He was shot multiple times in the left arm, left torso and back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The medical examiner’s office said the man is John Hosey Jr., of the 3900 block of West Fillmore. Hosey was pronounced dead at 10:32 p.m. at Sinai, according to the office. Hosey lived in the same neighborhood where he was shot.

About 8:45 p.m. in the 100 block of South Kilpatrick Avenue, a 28-year-old man was shot to death and a 17-year-old boy was wounded in a shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The dead man’s name has not been made public yet, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Editor’s note: The man was identified as Cory Hughes, of 100 block of North Laporte Avenue, according to information released Aug. 12 by the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Hughes was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital.

The teen was hit in the left ankle. He managed to get to Loretto Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

Police initially said the 17-year-old boy was fatally hit.

The older man was standing on the sidewalk when a male attacker walked up to him and fired shots. The 17-year-old was driving past the shooting when he was struck as well, according to police.

About 7:50 p.m., a 24-year-old died after someone fired shots in the car he was driving near 83rd Place and Kedzie Avenue on the Southwest Side, according to Langford. The motorist, who was shot multiple times including in the head, then ran off the road into a yard, Langford said. He was taken to Advocate Christ in critical condition. He was identified by authorities as Denzell Mickiel, of the 7000 block of South Honore Street in Chicago.

Another person in the car with him was also injured, but by shattered glass, Langford said. Hospital information was not available for that victim yet.

A silver Lexus sat parked on the tidy, square lawn of a brick house near Kedzie Avenue and 83rd Place. The front of the car, badly damaged, faced the house’s front door steps. The car’s front doors were swung wide open as police investigated.

A resident of the house at one point opened their front door and peered out at the car that sat on their lawn. Less than a minute later, the resident closed the door and turned off the lights.

About a dozen neighbors watched from behind yellow tape, and some pointed at the marked and numbered shell casings that sat in the middle of the intersection. But bullet holes were not apparent on the mangled Lexus.

About 7:25 p.m., a 22-year-old man was fatally shot in the head in the 800 block of South Springfield Avenue, in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Sweeney said.

The 22-year-old man’s name has not been made public yet, according to the medical examiner’s office.

No further information was available about this West Side fatal shooting.

Earlier, a 61-year-old man who was on a porch with his 3-year-old great-nephew was gunned down on the South Side.

This attack happened about 1:20 p.m. in the 9200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, in the city’s Burnside neighborhood.

The man, identified at the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Michael Lucas, was on his porch with his great-nephew when, about 1:20 p.m., assailants approached on foot and opened fire, hitting Lucas in the neck, police said. Lucas was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:35 p.m., according to the office. No one else was injured.

In other Monday shootings:

Most recently, about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, a 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man were wounded in a shooting in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

The two were walking to the store in the 3700 block of West Ogden Avenue when someone in a passing vehicle fired shots at them. The man was hit in the right heel and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition. The boy was hit in the right leg and was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

About 12:50 a.m., a 25-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The man was walking outside in the 400 block of East 71th Street when he heard gunshots and realized he was struck in the hand. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital for treatment, police said.

About 11:20 p.m. Monday, a 31-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The man was standing on a corner in the 6400 block of South Maryland Avenue when he heard shots and realized he was struck. He was hit in the left arm and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.

About 11 p.m., a 24-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to the leg and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The location of the shooting was not immediately known.

Police said the man was being uncooperative. His condition stabilized at the hospital.

Earlier shootings:

About 3:30 p.m., 21-year-old man was shot in the left thigh while in the 3700 block of West Arthington Avenue in the city’s Homan Square neighborhood, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a police spokeswoman. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition has stabilized after the shooting.

About 3:05 p.m., 36-year-old man was shot in the inner left thigh while walking in the 4800 block of South Damen Avenue, Tannehill said. He was taken to an area hospital.

About 10:30 a.m., man in his early 20s was shot in the leg in the 2600 block of West 23rd Street in the Little Village neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to Langford. His condition was not available.
