One of my favorite interviews last year was with Chicago punk outfit Meat Wave, where we spent an afternoon at Half Acre Brewing Company drinking that brewery’s coincidentally-named “Meat Wave” beer. Several beverages aside, the reason I remember that interview so fondly is because those dudes were incredibly easy to talk to and “Delusion Moon,” their last album, more than holds up a summer later.
“Sham King,” a song that appeared on “Delusion Moon” as well as their 2015 EP “Brother” might be my favorite Meat Wave song—it’s unrelentingly loud, brooding and super catchy. Fortunately, Meat Wave were in the California offices of their label SideOneDummy and recorded a ripping rendition of the track. RedEye’s premiering the video below so check it out.
You can check out Meat Wave’s upcoming tour dates here (which includes a Nov. 12 stop in Chicago at the Bottom Lounge with PUP). Also, keep an eye out for the full length follow-up to “Delusion Moon,” which was recorded with Steve Albini and should be out in early 2017.
