Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

You can tell when someone really likes the game of golf. They usually light up when describing a perfect shot that helped make a birdie, eagle or even a hole-in-one.

With August in full swing (no pun intended), golfers have to take advantage of good weather by getting out to courses as much as they can.

If you enjoy participating in local golf outings, you have some upcoming options during the next couple of weeks. All are great events, offering business networking opportunities, as well as fundraising for a variety of worthy causes.

From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Aug. 15, the third annual “Fore! The Harbour Golf Outing” happens at the Grove Country Club in Long Grove to benefit homeless youth.

The Harbour is a nonprofit providing emergency shelter, transitional housing and supportive services to homeless kids and young adults between the ages of 12 and 21 living in the northern Chicago suburbs. For more than 40 years, The Harbour has helped thousands of children without parental figures by teaching them basic life skills, as well as skills for career development and independent living.

Their crisis hotline number is 847-297-8541. Interested golfers can register for the outing at www.theharbour.org

and enjoy a fun day of golf, lunch, games, goody bags, an awards reception and more.

The GLMV Chamber of Commerce, which covers Green Oaks, Libertyville, Mundelein and Vernon Hills, is hosting its annual golf outing from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Hawthorn Woods Country Club.

This is a great opportunity for people to join some influential area business leaders for a great day of golf, networking, lunch and dinner. The outing includes a shotgun start, scramble format, raffle prizes, contests, lunch, dinner and cocktails. The chamber also will host a special raffle, including a chance to win $10,000.

Registration information is available at www.glmvchamber.org.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 28, Congregation Beth Judea is hosting its 21st annual “Jack Rizman Memorial Golf Outing” at the Buffalo Grove Country Club.

The handicap scramble outing includes an electric cart, contest holes, and course cash for food, drinks and dinner at Lou Malnati’s at 6:30 p.m. in Buffalo Grove. All proceeds from the event will help fund the Dr. Jack Rizman Memorial Music Fund, as well as other congregational and community programs.

Hole sponsors are welcome. For information, contact Chuck Walcer at 847-419-1605 or email [email protected]. You also can contact Morry Rizman at 847-478-9790 or email her at [email protected]. Registration is available at www.bethjudea.org.

Finally, Bob Chinn’s Crab House is hosting Aug. 29 its 14th annual “Charity Golf Outing,” benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association — Greater Illinois Chapter. The fundraiser has a special significance to the Chinn family because Bob’s wife, Jean Chinn, passed away earlier this year after being diagnosed with the disease.

She was the devoted wife of Bob for 69 years, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The golf outing will be held at two locations — Royal Melbourne Country Club, where spots are already sold out, and the Hawthorne Woods Country Club, where spots still are available. The event begins with lunch at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start/scramble format, cocktail hour and a dinner/raffle with a silent auction.

Sponsorship opportunities still are available. Contact Steve Jirak at 847-520-3633 or email [email protected]. Registration is available at www.alzheimers-illinois.org.
