The parking lot behind Lake Forest City Hall should be a lot smoother when aldermen return from their August break.

The lot will be resurfaced starting Aug. 8. The top few inches of asphalt will be removed and replaced with new asphalt.

“There’s also going to be some curb repair at spot locations in the parking lot,” said Jim Koblas, engineering assistant for the city. “They’ll improve the two entrances onto Oakwood by widening them out a bit. Right now they are kind of narrow.”

It has been a least a dozen years since the lot was repaved “and probably well before that,” Koblas said. “The asphalt surface has gotten to such a bad condition, it warrants being resurfaced.”

Peter Baker & Sons was awarded the project at a bid of $177,479, according to city council records. An additional $7,520 will be available for unanticipated work and plants for parking lot islands for a total cost of $185,000. The bid was approved by the City Council at its June 6 meeting.

Peter Baker & Sons has until Sept. 2 to complete the project, Koblas said.
