Jerry Garcia’s famed guitar, Tiger, last used when the Grateful Dead frontman performed at Soldier Field in 1995, is back.

Garcia played his famed 13–and–a–half–pound custom guitar in what was to be his last public performance. But Tiger will return to the stage as part of a concert series to honor the band’s music, reports Rolling Stone.

Tiger will be used during the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration tour, which features Warren Haynes, who has played with the remaining members of the band since Garcia’s death, and local symphonies.

The guitar has been owned by Jim Irsay, the owner and CEO of the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts, since 2002. Irsay is loaning the guitar to the series because Garcia’s musical influence and impact, he said.

“Tiger needs to be available for future generations to see and hear. I know this instrument, in the right hands, can produce sound capable of moving the human spirit to dance, to tears and every emotion in between,” Irsay told Rolling Stone in a statement.

The concert series ends Aug. 8 in New York’s Central Park.

“I’m psyched to have the opportunity to play it,” Haynes said. “Great instruments are not meant to be in glass cases.”
