Enjoy these sweet days of having a fresh “Harry Potter” story to savor, because this time might really be the last.

Some hoped that the arrival of the two-part play (and book) “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” meant that the series was back open and J.K. Rowling would be telling more tales of Harry, Ron, Hermione and all our other wizard faves. But on Saturday she broke the hearts of “Potter” fans everywhere, as she has become so good at doing, by answering a question about the possibility of a new phase of stories with a firm, “No, no.”

“[Harry Potter] goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done. This is the next generation, you know,” Rowling told Reuters at the “Cursed Child” play’s London premiere. “So, I’m thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.”

The play, based on a story Rowling wrote with playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany, arrives nine years after the publication of Book 7, “Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows,” and is billed as “The Eighth Story.”

“[It] chimed perfectly with the material I had about the next generation and I could see it would work perfectly,” Rowling told Reuters. “So, I never wanted to write another novel, but this will give the fans something special.”

The “something special” is certainly appreciated, but here’s hoping this isn’t the true end. The boy who lived still lives, and we’ll always want more.
