A spokesman for Toyota Park in Bridgeview said Sunday that no equipment issues contributed to a Chicago man falling two stories to his death during a festival at the venue on Friday.
“We don’t believe this was a safety issue. We believe someone sat on a railing, and you’re not supposed to sit on a railing,” said Ray Hanania, a spokesman for the village of Bridgeview, which owns Toyota Park.
Authorities are waiting for blood and other lab test results from the investigation into the death of 29-year-old Robert Smucz, of the 4500 block of North Campbell Avenue, Hanania said.
Police interviewed the man’s girlfriend and friend, who were both at the Chicago Open Air Festival with him, Hanania said.

Smucz was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m. Friday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, officials said. According to the Cook County medical examiner, Smucz died of multiple injuries in an accidental fall.
Police are investigating, but the incident is listed as an accident, Hanania said.
Smucz was sitting on a railing at the mezzanine level and fell to the concrete, Hanania said. He died during the first day of the three-day festival, which wrapped up Sunday and featured bands, craft beer and “gourmet man food.”
