player ready...As president of the United States, Barack Obama has many pressing concerns. From drone strikes to fighting off Donald Trump’s best attempts at taking over the White House, there are many reasons why Obama’s hair is more gray than anything lately.
But one issue that seems to not be on Obama’s docket? Finding a pair of fitted jeans. Despite his well-earned reputation for being one of the coolest presidents in our country’s history, Obama isn’t immune to the dangers of mom jeans.
Now a few concerned citizens are working to help him into a pair of jeans that’ll do him justice. Hanson O’Haver of Brooklyn launched a GoFundMe campaign, seeking to raise $185 to get the president a pair of APC jeans. O’Haver begins by saying he thinks a pair of good jeans would be a fitting gift when we say goodbye to Obama’s presidency come January.
“We know that the President likes jeans,” O’Haver wrote, “and it would be cool for him to have a pair of raw selvedge denim to really break in and make his own.”
Currently the campaign sits at only $20 with four contributors. One of the four, Mike Somerville, expressed his concern alongside a $5 donation, saying it “breaks [his] heart that while [he is] sitting here comfortably in a pair of well fitting jeans, somewhere the president of some obscure northern hemisphere country has to make do with mom jeans.”
O’Haver justifies the lofty goal for one pair of jeans, saying “spending nearly $200 on jeans is hardly an everyman move, but like, President Obama has been the most important person in the world for the last eight years. It’s fine.”
In a time of extreme political turbulence in the U.S., setting a common goal, like getting our president a quality pair of jeans, can bring us together. And it’s clear O’Haver has done his research, going so far as to give detailed instructions for the president once his jeans are purchased.
“I’d recommend that the President wait roughly three months before washing his new APCs for the first time,” O’Haver writes. “After this he can wash monthly, depending on wear. Woolite Dark is generally the preferred detergent for washing dark denim, but honestly Tide or Mrs. Meyer’s will be fine.”
