The Veterans Network Committee of Northern Illinois has announced that it will hold its first annual VNC Challenge Charity Hockey Game on Sunday, at Leafs Ice Centre, 801 Wesemann Drive in West Dundee.

The VNC Challenge is being sponsored by the VNC in partnership with First American Bank, Blue Line Bar & Grill, Leafs Ice Centre and Hurley & Volk Orthodontics, with special thanks to Marty Throop.

The game will feature the VNC Patriots versus the Rockets of West Dundee, according to VNC. Doors open at 11 a.m. with the game running from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 each.

The hockey game will include official referees, a DJ, shoot-the-puck, color guard and singing of the National Anthem. Attendees can purchase lunch and beverages at the Blue Line Bar & Grill at Leafs Ice Centre. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of its sales that day to the VNC.

According to Debbie Donohue, assistant vice president at First American Bank, 201 South State Street in Hampshire: “The hockey game will raise funds for an Honor Flight trip that VNC sponsors every August. The trip sends 40 veterans and their guardians to Washington DC so they can visit the veteran memorials. VNC is an officially recognized Hub for Honor Flight. Our trip is a three-day event where most Hubs, including Chicago, do a one-day trip.”

Tickets are being sold at the First American Banks in Hampshire, Spring Hill, West Dundee and South Elgin.
