Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Wilmette resident Sharokin Ishaya was leaving the Wilmette Public Library on July 13 when she spoke with Pioneer Press about her preferred flavor of ice cream, the vacation spot she likes the best and more.

Q: Since the summer’s hot weather is upon us, what’s your favorite way to cool off: going to the beach, or staying inside with the air conditioning on?

A: Definitely air conditioning. I’m not so much a beach person. When you’re inside, you’re not getting so much sunshine as you would at the beach, which is another reason I like it. I don’t like getting sunburned.

Q: What was your favorite subject when you were in school?

A: I liked poems and studying language. I don’t read poems much anymore, though.

Q: When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: I wanted to be a pilot – but I’m afraid that changed when I grew up, because I’m afraid of heights! That kind of changed my path in life. Now I work very, very, very part time because I’m taking care of children.

Q: What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

A: That’s easy; coffee ice cream is the best.

Q: Do you have a cause or charity that you would like people to know about?

A: I do. It’s an organization called Compassion International ( They provide all kinds of aid to children in different poor and undeveloped countries.

Q: And finally, where would you say is your absolute favorite vacation spot?

A: That’s another easy one. California. I like southern California the best, around San Diego.
