A 36-year-old Gary, Ind. woman died when she was ejected from the sport-utility vehicle she was driving early Monday on the Bishop Ford Freeway.

Her name was not being made public yet but she lived in Gary, Ind., and was pronounced dead on the scene after being thrown from a 2001 Ford Expedition, according to Illinois State Police.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 1:05 a.m. on the two-lane southbound ramp of Interstate 94 to eastbound Interstate 80, according to Illinois State Police.

Witnesses saw the SUV speeding and then go out of control, hitting a barrier and flipping several times. She was ejected and landed in the middle of the road, state police said.

Four other people were in the SUV with her, three of whom suffered non-life threatening injuries and a fourth who was partially ejected, state police said. Three were taken to hospitals, one to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and two were taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health, state police said.

Officials blocked off the lanes on the I-94 ramp as they investigated the crash for several hours Monday morning. But as of 6:30 a.m., all the lanes were open traffic in the area, according to state police.
