A 39-year-old registered sex offender pleaded guilty Wednesday to disorderly conduct in connection to a May incident involving a teen girl in Elgin, court records show.
Seneca Freeman, who is listed as homeless in court filings, was originally accused of following a 15-year-old Larkin High School student on the morning of May 20 and making suggestive comments to her about becoming his girlfriend and driving his car. Prosecutors dismissed an attempted luring of a child charge as part of Freeman’s plea agreement.
Judge John Barsanti accepted the plea and the accompanying sentence that put Freeman on 18 months of probation and prohibits him from contacting the girl or one of her relatives. Freeman also received 30 days in Kane County Jail, but he was credited with nearly 50 days served since his arrest.
Freeman is listed as a sex offender in connection to a Cook County conviction for criminal sexual abuse involving a 17-year-old victim when Freeman was 19, according to the state’s sex offender registry. He was charged in DuPage County in 2012 with failing to register after a change of address and living too close to a school, two offenses referenced on the sex offender database. Freeman also was sentenced to prison time about a decade ago for a drug conviction. Kane County court records show him with a misdemeanor disorderly conduct arrest on May 6 which was dismissed in the felony case’s plea.
