Someone tried to lure an 8-year-old boy Saturday evening in the Norwood Park East neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.

The boy was playing with a baseball at a field in the 6200 block of North Normandy Avenue when the ball went over the fence onto Normandy around 6:55 p.m., according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

The boy climbed over the fence to get the ball. As he was climbing, a green SUV traveling north on Normandy stopped. An unknown male driver told the boy that he would give him a ride and offered him candy.

The boy then ran back to the field and alerted family members, who saw the vehicle go north on Normandy and east on Palatine Avenue, according to the statement.

The suspect is described as a male operating a green SUV or truck with white stripes and tinted windows in the back. It was possibly a Chevrolet Avalanche.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call Area North detectives at 312-744-8200.
