A 20-year-old Aurora man has been convicted of attempted murder in connection with a September 2013 shooting in the city.

Armando Delgado faces a minimum of 26 years in prison after Kane County Judge Linda Abrahamson found him guilty of firing shots at two men in a car as part of a gang-motivated attack. The shooting was one of two separate incidents on the same night in Aurora nearly three years ago.

Abrahamson presided over a bench trial last week and issued the ruling this week. She acquitted Delgado of aggravated discharge of a firearm and a second count of attempted murder related to the second shooting. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 30.

Prosecutors said Delgado was the gunman in the shooting near Broadway Avenue and Bluff Street. He approached a vehicle waiting in traffic, yelled gang slogans and held a 9mm handgun to the head of a passenger in the vehicle. Before Delgado could pull the trigger, the car drove off, but Delgado fired multiple times, striking the car. No one was injured in that shooting or in the shooting later that night.

Delgado and a second man, 27-year-old Andrew Bueno, were arrested by police after a traffic stop near Tollview and Sheffer roads based on a witness description of the vehicle used in one of the shootings.

Bueno pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault in February and received a two-year prison sentence. He is currently in the Robinson Correctional Center with an expected parole date in December.
