We already knew the “Game of Thrones” showrunners like to kill off characters we hold dear, but now they’re coming for OUR lives (figuratively, thank goodness) and delaying Season 7.
For the first six seasons of the show, “Thrones” has premiered in April (or earlier–shoutout to the March 31 arrival of Season 3). But now showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff, the masterminds behind the deaths of many of our favorites (RIP Margaery Tyrell, you’ll always be our queen), are shattering that expectation, and not in the good way.
“We don’t have an air date yet, but this year it’ll be a little bit later,” the two showrunners said on the UFC Unfiltered podcast. Vague, yes. Encouraging, no. (Also, why are they revealing this on a mixed martial arts-related podcast? Weird.)
“We’re starting [filming] a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here,’ and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes anymore,” they said. “So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, gray weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
Okay, we get it. Winter is here, but don’t punish us for the shitty Westerosi climate! For now, the least we can do is be thankful this didn’t happen last season and that the worst-kept secret in the seven kingdoms, that Jon Snow wasn’t actually dead, wasn’t put off any longer.
Here’s hoping the delay won’t be too much past April, but we’re not used to getting our way when it comes to “Thrones.” If we were, Ned Stark would still have a head.
