A person was found dead on the train tracks Wednesday morning near a CTA Red Line station on the South Side, authorities said.
The male, whose age was not immediately available, was found lying unresponsive around 7 a.m. on the southbound tracks near the 87th Street train station, according to CTA spokeswoman Tammy Chase.
The male was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chicago Fire Department officials.
The body was transported to St. Bernard Hospital, and it was not immediately clear how he ended up on the tracks or how he died, Chase said.
As of 8 a.m., Red Line trains are going through the area but are not stopping at the 87th Street station.
CTA officials are providing bus shuttles for commuters between 95th and 79th train stations, Chase said.
Police are conducting a death investigation, and no other information was immediately available.
