Not to be outdone by Burger King’s introduction of “Mac n’ Cheetos,” McDonald’s is now ruining something else sacred: Sriracha.
It would be one thing if Micky D’s was just slapping some Sriracha on its burgers and calling it good, but no. They’re tainting the spicy chili sauce from Thailand by mixing it with the disgusting-in-its-own-right Big Mac sauce and calling it—no, I’m not kidding—”Signature Sriracha.” Because it’s just not good enough on its own, apparently.
Sriracha has been growing in popularity, changing from a staple found mainly in different Asian restaurants to one that can be found anywhere and dumped on top of anything, if kicking your food up a notch is something you’re into. But mixing it with Big Mac sauce is nothing less than sacrilege, appropriating the cultural appropriation of Sriracha that’s already been on the rise.
The new burgers and sandwiches have slowly rolled out in San Diego and Los Angeles over the past month and will debut in Seattle starting July 7 before (most likely) spreading nationwide.
