New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has joined a campaign with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) to warn about the dangers of fireworks as the one-year anniversary of an Independence Day accident that maimed his right hand approaches.
Late on July 4, Pierre-Paul had a firework go off in his hand in Deerfield Beach. The Giants pass rusher had been coming off a season where he had logged 12.5 sacks. Last year, in eight games, Pierre-Paul dragged down the quarterback attempting to pass only once.
The 27-year-old Pierre-Paul, who starred at Deerfield Beach High School, wrote in Twitter that he would be on ABC’s Good Morning America on Thursday morning to discuss the issue.
He also shared an image of a PSA for the USCPSC that showed his hand.
