Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

On the first day of summer, Wilmette resident Haley Wint was busy helping customers cool off with frozen goodies at Cocomero Frozen Yogurt.

Q: How do you keep cool when it’s hot out?

A: I go to the ice rink and figure skate. I’ve been figure skating for about 16 years. I guess I like how it’s an individual thing. When you make a mistake or do well, it’s your personal responsibility. You have a team with you, your coach and others, but it’s you out on the ice.

Q: Speaking of vacations, what’s the farthest you’ve traveled from home on a vacation?

A: It would probably be Europe. We went a couple of years ago and visited Paris, London, and Bruges in Belgium. That was all pretty neat.

Q: Do you have a charity or cause that you’d like people to know about?

A: Well, in the fall, I’m going to Georgetown University. I’m interested in studying government. I think I’d like to do something that would educate young people, people my age, in a non-partisan political way, about our government and how it operates. Because as you know, people in our age bracket don’t vote, and I’d like to help change that.

Q: What music do you connect with summer?

A: It’s not strictly summer, and probably not age-appropriate for kids, but Black Skinhead by Kanye West is good workout music. Another favorite isn’t strictly summer music either, but growing up, my Dad and I listened to a lot of ABBA. I really liked “Mama Mia” – it sticks in your head.
