Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Susan Fagan of La Grange Park, marketing and communications coordinator at the La Grange Park Public Library and a roller derby participant, answered questions while working at the library.

Q: How long have you worked at the library?

A: One and a half years. I was on the board for seven years and I live right across the street.

A: How did you manage to live so close to the library?

A: It was just luck. We sold another house in La Grange Park and moved across the street. I love my house. It’s a ranch with a nice big yard. I like the one-level living.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: Clarendon Hills

Q: How do decide to go into library science?

A: I majored in French and business at the University of Illinois and then got my master’s in library science at U. of I. I went to the Clarendon Hills Library all the time when I was growing up. After college, I went into the business world briefly. Then I was talking to a friend who was studying library science and I was like ‘Oh. That’s what I should be doing.'”

Q: What do you enjoy about your job?

A. I get to promote all the fun things we do. Like at our (recent) summer reading kick-off. We had a bounce house in the parking lost and a life-size Sorry game and jousting.

Q: Are you married?

A. Yes. My husband’s name is John and we have three daughters: 10-year-old twins and a 7-year-old.

Q: What’s your favorite book?

A: I read “Rebecca” by Daphne Du Maurier every couple of years because it spurred my interest in mysteries. I also love rock ‘n roll biographies. I love hearing the authors like Pete Townsend read their own books.

Q. What is your favorite TV show?

A: We don’t have a TV. We have Netflix on the iPad. So it’s not like they (her children) are deprived.

Q: What’s your favorite color?

A: I am into a red phase right now. I love red shoes and I have red hair.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: Roller Derby. I grew up skating. I am a child of the seventies. I went to the roller rink all the time.

Q: Any injuries?

A: Two sprained ankles, two sprained wrists, a broken tail bone, dislocated rib and lots of bruises.

Q: What do you like about roller derby?

A: I love the camaraderie, meeting women from all walks of life.

Q. Where are you going on your next vacation?

A: We’re going to Cleveland because I am playing (in a roller derby match) there. We’re going to visit some friends who live there and go to Cedar Point Amusement Park.
