Comedian Milton “Lil Rel” Howery was delivering punches rather than punchlines Sunday night.

“The Carmichael Show” star was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery after being involved in a minor traffic accident.

Howery, 36, was a passenger in a car that struck another vehicle on the 1100 block of West Taylor Street at 11:30 p.m. After the crash, the comedian exited the car and got in an argument with the driver of the other vehicle, police said.

When the victim called 911, Howery punched the victim. The driver of Howery’s vehicle left the scene, and responding officers arrested Howery on the scene, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The victim received on-scene treatment for minor abrasions to his hand and elbow. Howery reportedly posted $1,500 bond Monday morning, according to TMZ. He is scheduled to appear in court July 1, police said.

“The Carmichael Show” airs on NBC. An NBC publicist said the network had no comment.
