An anhinga unfurling its wings.
A swan watching over its hatchlings.
An egret chomping on a fish.
You can see all of this in downtown Orlando at Lake Eola Park.
Perhaps best known for its famous fountain, its swan boats and its Sunday farmers market, the park is an urban haven for birdwatchers.
Go there. Weekday mornings are the best, most tranquil times.
Stroll along the walking path that encircles the lake. Stop at the southwestern shore, near the pine straw. You’ll likely see anhingas — birds with long, curved necks — luxuriating on tree roots, outstretching their wings and drying themselves off following dives into the water.
Egrets, their white feathers shimmering in the sun, typically stand nearby.
Continue clockwise along the lake, and you’ll see ducks, common gallinules and more swans.
Birds fly overhead.
