A 12-year-old girl remains in critical condition Saturday after being struck by a pickup truck in Gages Lake in unincorporated Lake County Friday.
Charges have not been filed against the driver as it appears the girl may have crossed against the traffic light based on witness reports, detective Chris Covelli of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
The girl was southbound and crossing Gages Lake Road when the driver of an eastbound Chevrolet pickup truck struck her when she was about halfway through the intersection, according to police reports. Witnesses told investigators he was unable to avoid hitting her, Covelli said.
The girl was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and later flown to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she is listed in critical but stable condition, according to Covelli.
The investigation is still ongoing, and traffic specialists will reconstruct the events, Covelli said.
