A number of events are planned this summer in the parks around Montgomery.

Free ice cream sundaes will be given out at Montgomery Park, followed by a concert featuring Hillbilly Rock Starz, at 6:30 p.m. June 9. Montgomery Park is at River and Mill streets in Montgomery.

A new event called Sunday in the Park is scheduled for 4 p.m. June 26 in Lakewood Creek Park. It will feature free ice cream the first hour, and food provided by food trucks. Games and activities for children will be available and a free concert is set to begin at 5 p.m., with performances by The Lennys and Friday Jackson.

“We wanted to have something different and something entirely new that has never been done before,” said Debbie Buchanan with the village of Montgomery. “We don’t have a unified school or park district that provides for the entire community.”

Trustee Doug Marecek said the Sunday in the Park event is not in the downtown area but instead out in a neighborhood.

“We are trying to get some exposure to the west side. The park is right in the middle of the subdivision,” he said.

He estimated “over a thousand” residents can easily walk to the concert.

A concert is also set for 7:30 p.m. June 30 at Montgomery Park by the group Snap Shot, which performs classic rock songs.

On July 14 Billy Croft and the 5-Alarm band will play country music at Montgomery Park beginning at 7:30 p.m.

From Aug. 12 to 14, Montgomery Fest will be held at Montgomery Park. It will feature carnival rides, food vendors, a car show, parade, fireworks, free petting zoo and pony rides, craft and business booths and music.
